Preston Innovations Space Station TX
I think I can safely say that 2008 is gearing
up to be the year of the seatbox. It seems that every
manufacturer worth its salt is bringing out a seatbox to
compete in what is now a very fierce sector of the angling
market.
Preston Innovations’ Space Station has been out for a
while and it’s widely recognised as a very
practical tool for sitting on. But nothing stands still
and all good manufacturers aim to make the original even
better in the Mk2 version – and that’s what Preston has
done here. The TX is the end product of 12 months of
development and testing. It’s smaller than the original,
and has a new livery and a removable footplate.
I’d say this box is better looking than the original. There is
definitely something about an all-black seatbox that makes it
look classy, and it only loses this touch when it’s covered in
mud! The TX is designed around a black, tubular frame that
gives it strength and stability on all types of banks. As with
other seatboxes the TX has six legs, two of which are
extendable, and these will help you get level on awkward banks.
The large-diameter legs add stability and stature to the box,
and will always look as good as new thanks to the non-marking
leg system employed within the locking knuckles.
Sitting underneath the frame is a removable, cassette-style
90mm base and lid unit. This would be ample to house larger
items of tackle such as reels, catapults and so on. The
remainder of the storage units are above the reduced frame.
Supplied with the box is a deep side-drawer unit and a
two-compartment unit that comes complete with 60 18cm Pop-Up
Slider Winders. Meanwhile, just take a peek in the 2008 Preston
Innovations catalogue and you’ll find a whole host of add-on
units that you can purchase to create the box of your
dreams!
The footplate can now be removed fully from the TX, meaning you
can get lower to the ground and carry less weight if you wish.
The footplate has several non-slip bars to make your session
even more comfortable than before, if you decide to use it.
The TX is Off Box-system compatible and this has been one of
the best innovations in the last few years – I’m sure everyone
has at least one item of Off Box tackle with them every time
they go fishing.
Other developed areas of this box include a padded carry strap
that’s attached to the frame by fail-safe karabiner-type clips,
folding mudfeet and a moulded, pole-retaining strap.
There are loads of points to this seatbox that make it stand
out from the crowd, but I particularly think that the history
of the original Space Station and the development that has gone
into the TX will put this box very close to the top of anglers’
wishlists.
Preston Innovations is also giving away an accessory pack free
with every Space Station TX purchased. The pack includes a
super side tray, up-and-under pole rests, double ripple bar,
two short keepnet bars, a 50cm feeder arm and 60 16cm pop-up
slider winders in removable insert trays. A great incentive,
I’m sure you’ll agree.
