Trabucco Dream Team Pole Floats
They’re back! Trabucco’s legendary pole
floats, that is, and we were so excited we drew lots to decide
who reviewed them! Mark Williams’ lucky drawing hand avoided
the short straw, giving him several packs of floats to play
with.
With so many weird and wonderful patterns in the
tackle shops these days it’s all too easy to build up a big
float collection. Thin ones, fat ones, lollipops or tiny bleak
floats – there’s a float for every situation and more!
I’m a bit of a sucker for all pole floats, and I have a
myriad of patterns sitting in my house that may
never be used but went home with me once because they
looked good at the time. In that number, though, there are
very few Trabucco patterns, because those I do have from
the old Ultimate range are all tied on rigs and being used
– they’re just too good to be left doing nothing.
However, in recent seasons the Ultimate range faded and
ultimately (geddit?) became unavailable. Since the arrangement
of new distribution rights, through Masterline UK, Trabucco has
responded to many anglers’ requests and brought out a range of
pole floats in the Dream Team brand, with some of the old
popular Ultimate patterns and some new ones. Either way you
look at it, these will be some of the best floats you’ve ever
seen. The quality on them hasn’t dropped; in fact, they’re even
better now that they’re under the Dream Team banner!
There are now nine different patterns of floats, but for some
reason they aren’t numbered from DT1 to DT9; in fact, they’re
labelled as DT1, DT2, DT3, DT4, DT5, DT6, DT10, DT12 and DT13.
Bloomin’ Italians, why do they confuse things? The first five
patterns are all carbon-stemmed, while the other four patterns
sport wire stems. There are some very famous and easily
recognisable patterns on show, with the DT10 pattern replacing
the old Ultimate 1 and the DT4 being the Ultimate 12 in
disguise. There are no wierd and wonderfully shaped floats in
the range, just traditional tried-and-tested pole-float shapes
that do the jobs they are made for.
Even though a lot of modern pole fishing takes place on
commercial fisheries, these floats are geared towards more
traditional techniques on canals, rivers and lakes. As one DHP
journalist commented: “These are real pole floats, for clever
fish!” I actually think he is right, too. (Wish I’d said
it!)
All of the floats in the range have either plastic or fibre
hi-viz bristles. On some patterns the thickness increases as
the loading does, to make them better balanced. The matt-black
finish is a very nice touch and complements this
professional-looking range of pole floats. Each pattern comes
in a range of sizes, so there will always be the perfect float
for any situation you’ll come across.
I think you could use any of these floats for a variety of
baits, including bloodworm, squatts, pinkies, maggots, casters
and the chopped worm. In fact, you could probably do 99 per
cent of your silver-fish fishing with this range.
I particularly like the DT1, DT5 and DT10 patterns and will
soon be adding these to my ever-growing collection of pole
floats (that get used!). When they come into stock in your
local tackle shop I’d recommend that you get your hands on some
before everyone else gets them.
